I grew up chanting, “Yeah!! We going to Midland!”

As the boys crushed another team to advance in the playoffs

I know the agony of defeat

I was there in 93 when they scored 70+pts

And became the State Champs.

I remember the names, familiar faces

Of life long fans you only see during the season

I’ve caravanned

Season 2 of this hilarious new Black rom-com premiers tonight! Whether you ended season 1, #TeamIssa or #TeamLawrence or maybe you didn’t even watch, catch up briefly with my notes on Season 1. These are my random musings as I binge watched the show one weekend. I enjoyed watching the show. I was able to connect instantly with all the characters especially Issa, Lawrence and Molly. I’ve faced relationship issues similar to Lawrence and Issa,

I have this complicated work history. Sadly I’ve been fired twice but it was such a good thing. Once I explain, you will think so too. I was fired from Walt Disney World in college and secondly from a summer teaching job in high school. Had I not been fired from Disney World I would not have been

O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light, What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming, It’s Fourth of July! America’s Independence Day! The day we celebrate our country with patriotic red, white and blue. I wanted to spend the day at the beach being a bum! I’ve never celebrated the nationwide holiday at the beach! In Texas my longstanding tradition was the backyard family BBQ every year. It never failed.

WATCH ME NOW on The Chew!

This all started as something fun for my boyfriend and I to do. Audience tickets for TV shows are free. Living near New York City gives us ample access to so many shows we couldn’t possibly try to attend them all. My boo attended culinary school and has some interest in cooking. I grew up cooking with my Mom and sisters. The Chew seemed like the

A friend introduced me to soul singer Donnie’s album The Colored Section (TCS) while in college and changed my world! I had just started my sophomore year at the University of North Texas. This album would become a major part of the soundtrack of my college years. Recently I spent one gloomy Saturday stuck inside interviewing the wonderfully insightful Donnie. I was nervous, breaking out into a sweat like a whore in

https://youtu.be/-1sZjzjbXSo I have many goals and dreams I want to do with my journalism career. I have literally dreamed about interviewing El DeBarge. I skipped news writing class, checking this off my bucket list. Leaving school early to film DeBarge at the now closed J&R Music World was a once in a lifetime opportunity. #YOLO Being a fan, I knew El’s new album was coming out. It had been 16 long years since

As summertime returns, I’m sharing my summer of 1993 memories of the best family road trip ever! From Texas to NYC and stops in between, I travelled the highways of America with my parents and a childhood friend. I was ten years old and had just graduated from fifth grade. My parents were retracing their steps with me on this trip. I missed the earlier family vacations with my older siblings because I wasn’t born.

On Mothers Day I attended #50in50:Writing Women Into Existence. The event celebrated Black women from across the world with our stories. From childhood, youth, young adulthood, middle age and mature, the stories spanned through life. 221 stories were submitted but only 50 made the cut. The well-regarded cast included Simone Missick, Pauletta Washington, Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

My maternal grandparents died before I was born in the 1980’s. I have never seen a photograph of my grandfather. He passed away when my mom was 12 years-old in 1959. My grandmother died in 1973. My grandmother was Correen Hudson and her husband was Spencer Harris. Grandma Correen was born in Carthage, Texas in 1905. Grandpa Spencer was born in Deberry, Texas in 1903. It’s suspected their parents were born either during slavery or

Black Female Writer That Is Who I Am!

There was a call for Black Women Writers. It was titled “50in50: Writing Women Into Existence.” I had no idea of what piece to submit. I have written many poems chronicling the last few tumultuous years of my life. But I did not know what piece quite captured what it felt like to be a woman. Then I remembered and submitted the poem I had

I remember being sexually assaulted in my high school media classroom like it was yesterday. The aftermath, counseling, suspension from school, judgment from school officials and peers has never left me, 18 years later. It’s a situation I am forced to remember when I read about young girls being sexually abused in any way. According to RAINN, females ages 16-19 are 4 times more likely than

Single Moms!! We need to talk! Especially if you are raising boys! Don’t pussy block your adult son!! Once a man is grown, develops needs of his own, he is not a child. He is not there to take care of your every need. Many sons feel financially responsible for their Moms after years of her taking care of them and siblings. I understand the sentiment. But when that supports interferes with a man’s ability

Chances are, you may know a deadbeat father. He may pay child support, as in the case of my son’s father, but doesn’t care to help raise the child or make himself known in that child’s life. More common are deadbeats who choose to not see their child and doesn’t pay child support. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but what happens when part of that village ain’t shit? Far too

I didn’t choose motherhood. It chose me. I was the reluctant mother. Don’t get me wrong, I love my son William. He is the apple of my eye. But truthfully I was reluctant to become his mother, even after he was born. I always wanted the career, the husband and the freedom to live life. Having Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, a hormonal endocrine disorder very common in women, made it easy for me not to
